BIOGEOMON history

The 1^st International Symposium on Ecosystem Behavior, that time titled GEOMON (as in geologic monitoring) was organized in Prague in 1987. It was motivated by a desire to understand the processes governing stream-basin chemistry. Five years later the meeting was retitled BIOGEOMON and its focus broadened towards ecosystem manipulations at various scales, mechanistic biogeochemical research, ecological modelling and other interdisciplinary science. Since then BIOGEOMON has oscillated across the Atlantic Ocean as follows:

1. Prague, Czechoslovakia 1987, 150 participants; titled GEOMON 

2. Prague, Czech Republic 1992, 200 participants; titled BIOGEOMON for the first time

3. Villanova, Pennsylvania, USA 1997, 240 participants

4. Reading, UK 2002, 300 participants

5. Santa Cruz, California, USA 2006, 300 participants

6. Helsinki, Finland 2009, 450 participants

7. Northport, Maine, USA 2012, 200 participants

8. Bayreuth, Germany 2014, 300 participants 

9. Litomyšl, Czech Republic 2017, 300 participants
